Worship, Prayers and Devotions

On this page we include the various prayers and devotions we use at Old Saint Martin's. We use a wide range of prayers which have been used by the church for many centuries. As catholics we also pray for the faithful departed and to Our Lady and the saints that they may join us in our intercessions.

We also have a link to a video on the Rosary and an article about the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The section will expand over the coming weeks.

The Our Father The Hail Mary
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom, the power
and the glory,
for ever and ever.

Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

The Collect for Saint Martin's Day A Prayer for our Church and Parish
Lord God of hosts,
who called Martin from the armies of this world
to be a faithful soldier of Christ:
give us grace to follow him
in his love and compassion for the needy,
and enable your Church to claim for all people
their inheritance as children of God;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Lord, we thank you for your loving care of those who worship here.
In this special place you are very real to us.
Fill us with the spirit of your love,
and guide us as we strive to show your presence
here in the heart of the city.
Help us to be patient during difficult times
and to keep strong of faith and firm of purpose
as we seek always to do your will.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

The Angelus The Salve Regina
V- The Angel of the Lord brought tidings unto Mary.
R- And she conceived by the Holy Ghost.

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.

V- Behold, the handmaid of the Lord.
R- Be it unto me according to thy word.

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.

V- And the Word was made flesh.
R- And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.

V- Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R- That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

We beseech thee, O Lord, pour thy grace into our hearts;
that as we have known the Incarnation of thy Son, Jesus Christ, by the message of an angel, so by his cross and passion may we be brought unto the glory of his resurrection through the same Christ our Lord.

Amen.
  Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy.
Hail our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

V- Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R- That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Amen.

  The Prayer to Our Lady Of Walsingham
  O Mary,
recall the solemn moment when Jesus,
your divine Son, dying on the Cross,
confided us to your maternal care.

You are our Mother;
we desire ever to remain your devout children.
Let us therefore feel the effects of your powerful intercession with Jesus Christ.
Make your name again glorious in Walsingham,
once renowned throughout our land by your visits,
favours, and many miracles.

Pray, Holy Mother of God,
for the conversion of England,
restoration of the sick,
consolation for the afflicted,
repentance of sinners,
peace to the departed.

O Blessed Mary, Mother of God,
Our Lady of Walsingham,
intercede for us.

Amen.
