Welcome to Old Saint Martin's Old Saint Martin's in the Cornmarket is a parish which stands firmly in the Catholic tradition of the Church of England. Here you can expect to find dignity, order and structure in worship, orthodox theology and faithfulness to apostolic order. The Mass is at the centre of our life both for us as individual Catholic Christians and as a congregation. It is celebrated every Sunday and Solemnity, and regularly during the week (and always by a male priest). You will find details of this week's services on the right hand side of this page. Confessions are heard by appointment with one of the Parish clergy. Our church offers you good music, catholic liturgy, and preaching of a reasonable length. We try to be a welcoming congregation, and should you wish to join us please make yourself know to the clergy or the sidesmen. We also recognise that some people choose to come and worship, watch and listen in solitude, and you are welcome to do that. Please explore our site through the menu bar which you will find at the top of each page. Father Ian Pearson, Parish Priest.
As always, Old Saint Martin's will be playing an active part in the Worcester Festival which this year runs from 15 to 31 August. During that period we will host several events, details of which are below. We hope that you will take this opportunity to visit our lovely church. "Woodbine Willie" The Worcester Years Exhibition We are dellighted that Canon
Paul Tongue has agreed to re-stage his exhibition on the life and ministry
of Father Geoffrey Studdert Kennedy, "Woodbine Willie" here at Old Saint
Martin's. The exhibition was first held earlier this year at the Cathedral
and proved to be very popular. It charts the life of this inspirational
man who was best known for his Chaplaincy to the troops in the trenches
of World War 1 during which he earned his nickname through handing out
his own cigarette rations to the 'Tommies.' From 1914 to 1922, Father
Studdert Kennedy was, in fact, the Parish Priest at Saint Paul's in Worcester,
which forms part of our own present day parish. Here again, he earned
a reputation amongst ordinary people for his devotion to his priestly
calling and his self-sacrificing' acts of charity, the most famous of
which saw him giving away his own bed! The exhibition will run from 15
August to 23 August and is open from 10.00am to 4.00pm each day and includes
photographs and documents from his time as parish priest at Saint Paul's,
as Army Chaplain and chief Missioner of the Industrial Christian Fellowship.
Daily Masses The daily Mass is resumed from Wednesday 1 July onwards. Please be aware of this and give your support as far as you can. New Minister for All Saints The interview panel met on Monday and as a result of our deliberations we forwarded a name for approval to the Bishop. The name of the person recommended should be announced shortly. Tony Ballard R.I.P. It is with a heavy heart that I ask you to remember in your prayers Tony who drowned in the River Severn last Monday, and his parents, Father Duncan & Ellie Ballard in the midst of their shock and grief. We send them the assurance of our love and prayers. Advance notice - Wednesday 15 July : Saint Swithun’s Day Please note that the usual 10.30 Mass will be in St. Swithun’s church that day.
